Home Extension
Rear HomeExtension
A single-storey rear extension in brick and block, adding ground-floor space to the back of the house.
01 — The work
What we did
- Foundations, drainage and ground works to take the new structure
- Brick and block construction, coursed and matched to the existing house
- New door and window openings formed and finished
- Roof, rainwater goods and junctions detailed back into the original building
- External levels, step and threshold rebuilt to suit the new entrance
The junction between old and new is where an extension is judged. Coursing was set out to run true against the existing wall, and the new threshold and step were rebuilt rather than patched, so the finished elevation reads as one building.
The result
Ground-floor space added where the house needed it, in a structure detailed to sit with the original rather than beside it.
